Elsieferne V. Stout

I was born in Dundy County, Nebraska, the daughter of Homesteaders. My education began in a one-room school in rural Dundy County, continued at the Parks High School, Parks, Nebraska. I received a B.S. (Home Economics/ Biology) from Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas and a Masters(Special Education) from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana.

One-room schools in Dundy and Chase Counties is where I began my teaching career. Later I substituted in grades K-12 in the consolidated schools in Rush County, Indiana. Currently besides writing, I design my own clothing and am a professional clothing alternationist. I am an active volunteer in my community and church.

While living in Rush County, Indiana, I wrote a weekly community news column for the "Rushville Republican", the daily newspaper in Rushville, Indiana. The first book, published in 1993 was "My Pioneer Ancestors" (family genealogy included histories of both my parents). In 2006 "Dundy County Babe" (an Autobiography of my life on the farm in Nebraska and Life in Indiana) was published. "Gitty Up!-- --Whoa!" is the companion book of "Dundy County Babe".

I live in Bloomington, Indiana. I have two daughters and five grandchildren.
